Position: Pharmaceutical Physician in Clinical Research

Location: BDD Pharma within Glasgow Royal Infirmary, 84 Castle Street, Glasgow G4

Salary: £65,000 – £75,000

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within BDD Pharma for a full-time Pharmaceutical Physician specializing in Clinical Research to join our successful clinical team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. As a rapidly growing Contract Research Organisation and commercial Clinical Trials Unit, BDD Pharma offers a dynamic environment where you will provide input and oversight across many therapeutic areas in clinical drug development, supporting the Research Medical Director.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team involved in early-phase drug development, from study design to clinical trial application, study conduct, and clinical study reporting. This position also offers support for further training and qualifications such as the Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical input into the design of clinical study protocols, participant information sheets, and informed consent forms.
  • Contribute to IRAS forms and Clinical Trial Applications.
  • Attend Ethics committee meetings, site initiation meetings, and client meetings as required.
  • Fulfill the role of co-investigator ensuring ICH/GCP and local regulations are met.
  • Following appropriate experience and training, act as a principal investigator (PI) ensuring ICH/GCP and local regulations are met.
  • Liaise with and develop positive relationships with sponsors and clients as required.
  • Engage with quality improvement activities.
  • Participate in the unit clinical teaching programme.

Schedule:

Standard hours are 9-5 or 8-4 Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week), though shift work and on-call duties may be required depending on study design.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • MBChB or equivalent medical degree.
  • GMC registration with a valid license to practice.
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience post qualification.
  • Active engagement in appraisal and revalidation activities as per GMC requirements.
  • Excellent team player with a track record of building and sustaining positive relationships with colleagues and patients.
  • Meticulous attention to detail in recording data and ability to address queries efficiently.
  • Core practical skills including venepuncture, cannulation, catheterization, and NG tube insertion.
  • Minimum of ILS certification.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years clinical experience post qualification.
  • Postgraduate medical qualification (e.g., MRCP or similar).
  • Experience in clinical research as a sub-investigator or higher.
  • Working knowledge of GCP and a valid GCP certificate.
  • Medical writing skills.
